Welcoming a TrueStar Puppy

Our Process

As a home based hobby breeder, our dogs are first and foremost our beloved family pets. We compete mainly in conformation these days, and are grateful to carry on the legacy of many of the top Goldens in the Country. We have bred many dogs that have gone on to work as therapy dogs in schools and hospitals, Service dogs, as well as dogs that excel in obedience, agility, scent work, hunting companions, hiking buddies & the like. All of our dogs have their Hips and Elbows, Heart, and Eyes checked and cleared through the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals and/or PennHip, as well as extensive Genetic Testing completed. This is all done before any dog enters our breeding program. We do this to ensure we are only producing to the very best of our human ability, the best of the best!

Our litters are born and raised in our home, handled daily and exposed to all sorts of normal everyday sounds and Stimuli. We perform Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) Temperament Testing using the Volhard Method, and a “Puppy Sounds” CD can be heard playing often when we have young puppies. Tracks such as “Dog Show Sounds” “Pots and Pans” “Goats & Sheep” “Babies Crying” “Train Station & Airport Sounds” along with many others often catch the attention of visitors!

We have three young daughters (13 ,11 & 7) so you can rest assured that your puppy is adequately snuggled and doted on from birth onward. We pour our heart and souls in to each and every litter we produce. Our puppies are introduced to water (time of year & weather permitting!); Sensory Stations, ball pits, and experience the regular rotation of different enrichment items. Puppies are also weaned onto an artificial grass turf for their elimination area, which lays the necessary solid building blocks for early & successful potty training. Each litter has free access to both wire & hard sided crates in their puppy pen, introducing them to the crate from an early age, helping with crate training & familiarity for traveling as well.

Waiting List

We at TrueStar do not operate on a “First come, First Served” basis. We want each and every puppy that we bring into this world to be eagerly welcomed into a loving family & safe home environment where they will be loved and cherished. For these reasons, we carefully screen our families.

We only take deposits for each litter based on the number of males and females we have available, and then right before go home time we temperament test each litter, as well as evaluate the litter structurally to determine which puppies will potentially go on to become show prospects, or carry on the Legacy of their parents here with us. This takes place at about the 7-7.5 week mark. The results from both the Temperament Testing and Evaluation’s paired with knowing what each family is looking for and hoping for in their future family member, then help us in guiding each family to the puppy that will be the best match for them, their preferences and their lifestyle. For example, some families may need a lower energy more laid-back puppy, while others may want a therapy dog prospect, and others a higher energy puppy to compete with in agility, etc. With the exception of show puppies, all of our puppies are placed in pet homes with spay/neuter contracts in place, with the strong recommendation of delayed spaying or neutering. We do work with families on this; if there is a particular puppy that catches your attention or tugs at your heart, we welcome you to share that with us! Ultimately, we just want our puppies in a sustainable and well matched home environment.
